Mauro Piva – Portraits with painted hands

This series of graphite and watercolour entitled “Portraits with painted hands” is a reference to Spanish painter Velázquez. It is said Velasquez would charge extra money for painting the hands as these were, in his opinion, the most important element to his work.
The only coloured element in Mauro Piva’s paintings are the hands.
